Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on praying behind people of innovation (Ahl al-Bid'ah). Some have permitted it, citing the actions of some Companions and Tabi'in, such as Ibn 'Umar and Al- praying behind Al-Hajjaj. Others have deemed it disliked (), such as Imam Malik.
