Is he who studies a worldly science to be called a scholar, a hypocrite or one of those by whom the Fire is kindled?

The forbidden ostentation (riya') is seeking status in people's hearts through worship. One who engages in ostentation through pure acts of worship is sinful. However, learning a worldly science to be called a scholar is not forbidden ostentation. Seeking fame through worldly matters like trade and industry is not absolutely forbidden, but a Muslim should strive for all their actions to be for the sake of Allah Almighty.
