Is thinking about the Qur’an or adhkar while committing a sin forbidden if it is merely a thought without uttering it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

This kind of contemplation is neither prohibited nor forbidden. Rather, it is prescribed for a servant to recall the greatness of Allah, His power, His omniscience, and His knowledge when contemplating a sin or committing one, so that it may serve as a deterrent. And there is no objection to contemplating some verses of the Qur'an or some adhkar (remembrances of Allah) if it contributes to deterring a person from sin and encouraging them to abandon it. We warn you against giving in to obsessive thoughts, as it leads to great evil.
