What is meant by endowments or endowment?

"Habs" (confinement/detention) has several meanings, including: prevention, holding back, imprisonment, and endowment (Waqf). In Islamic law, it means "holding back the principal and dedicating its usufruct (benefits)," i.e., holding back property and spending its proceeds in the way of Allah. Therefore, "Habs" and "Waqf" are synonymous in both Islamic legal terminology and linguistic usage.
