The answer

It is permissible to eat mish (a type of fermented cheese) unless there is a prohibition from the Sharia or if it is medically harmful. Regarding the ruling on consuming mish that contains worms, jurists have differed in opinion:

1. Hanafis: It is permissible to eat worms into which the soul has not been breathed, whether independently or with something else. It is forbidden to eat worms into which the soul has been breathed, whether alive or dead. 2. Shafi'is: It is permissible to eat worms found in cheese or fruit if they originated therein, whether alive or dead, unless the worms were removed and then returned after it was possible to preserve them. 3. Hanbalis: They permitted eating worms and weevils if they are incidental to something edible, such as eating fruit with its worms, and cheese and vinegar with what is in them. However, it is not permissible to eat them independently. 4. Malikis: Worms that originate from food, such as worms in fruit and mish, are permissible to eat absolutely, whether alive or dead. If they did not originate in it: if they are alive, they must be slaughtered; if they are dead and distinct, they should be discarded. If they are not distinct, they may be eaten if the food is more than them, but it is forbidden if the food is less than or equal to them.
