Are the father and mother sinful if they agree to the removal of one of the fetuses while the pregnancy is still in its first month, knowing that there is a risk to the continuation of a twin pregnancy due to uterine problems, and that the medical intervention aims to save the other fetus?

If it is medically established that the remaining of both fetuses in the womb might lead to their demise, it is permissible to abort one of them before the ensoulment, in hope of saving the other. This must be done before forty days of pregnancy have passed. However, if there is a strong probability of a safe pregnancy with both fetuses, then abortion should not be performed.
