Did Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, say that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was delerious, and did he refuse to give him a pen and paper to make a will appointing Imam Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, as his successor, and what is the correct interpretation of this incident?

When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fell severely ill, he requested to write a will to resolve disputes or to appoint a successor. When the Companions differed regarding fulfilling his request, he ordered them to leave. The reason for Umar ibn al-Khattab and those Companions who agreed with him refusing was out of compassion for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, believing that his request was a guidance, not an obligation, and that the Book of Allah was sufficient. There is no truth to what some claim, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to appoint Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, as successor.
