What is the ruling on praying in clothes that have cartoon drawings on them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the images on the clothes are of animate beings (human or animal), then it is not permissible to wear them, neither in prayer nor outside of it. And whoever prays in them is sinful, but their prayer is valid.

However, if the images are of inanimate objects, then praying in such clothes is disliked (makrooh), because they might distract the worshipper. What is required of the worshipper is to avoid everything that distracts them from their prayer, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did when he prayed in a Khamisah (a striped garment) that had markings, and it distracted him.
