Is it permissible to divorce one's wife based on the mother's desire, given the existence of harmony, love, and children between the spouses?

Allah Almighty has commanded kindness and good treatment towards parents. Jurists have differed regarding obedience to parents if they order their son to divorce his wife. If the order to divorce the wife is merely due to caprice or animosity that is not based on a legitimate Shar'i reason, then obedience is not obligatory, because that does not accord with the Shari'ah, and due to the generality of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The most hated of permissible things to Allah is divorce." One should attempt reconciliation between the mother and the wife, otherwise, it is advisable to take a separate home while considering the mother's interests.
