What is the ruling on one who accuses Imam Ali – karrama Allahu wajhahu – of being a polytheist before his acceptance of Islam, and what is the meaning of "karrama Allahu wajhahu"?

Ali ibn Abi Talib was the first boy to embrace Islam. He was born ten years before the Prophetic mission and was raised by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He participated with the Prophet in all battles except the Battle of Tabuk. The title "May Allah honor his countenance" was attributed to him because he never prostrated to an idol. This title became widely known and popular. However, it is preferable not to exclusively attribute this title to Ali to the exclusion of other Companions, especially after some innovators used it for malicious purposes and interpreted it with false interpretations. All Companions deserve honor and veneration, and it is impermissible to claim that any of them prostrated to idols before embracing Islam.
