How sound is the Hadith: "Whoever says in the morning and in the evening seven times: 'O Allah, You created me, You guide me, You feed me and give me drink, You cause me to die and You bring me to life; and You are over all things competent,' Allah will give him whatever he asks for"?

This hadith, narrated by Al-Tabarani in "Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat" from Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him), is weak. The reason for its weakness is due to several factors: Al-Tabarani's shaykh, Ahmad, his reliability as a source of evidence is not established; rather, Al-Haythami described him as "I do not know him." Furthermore, Al-Hasan Al-Basri—despite his great stature—was a mudallis (one who conceals defects in a chain of narration), and he only heard the hadith of aqiqah directly from Samurah ibn Jundub, which makes his narration of this particular hadith from Samurah unsubstantiated. Sheikh Al-Albani also classified this hadith as weak.
