What is the meaning of the name "Hirzullah" and is it permissible to name someone with it?

In language, "Hirz" means a fortress, an amulet, or an incantation (ruqyah). From this, it becomes clear that the name "Hirz Allah" implies a commendation (tazkiyah), as its meaning suggests that the child is Allah's impregnable fortress and His amulet that protects from dangers. Although someone who adopts this name might intend another meaning, such as the child being protected by Allah's permission, it is nevertheless more appropriate to avoid it due to the self-commendation it contains. There are many other good names besides this, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade a person from commending himself and from adopting a name that implies such a thing.
