What is the evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah for the prohibition of images and statues, and for the obligation of consulting the people of knowledge when there is a dispute?
Allah Almighty commanded to ask the people of remembrance (Ahl al-Dhikr) if a person does not have knowledge of religious matters. Al-Sa'di said that the verse is general to every issue. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade not asking when ignorant, saying: "Why did they not ask when they did not know? Indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking." Ibn Abd al-Barr also mentioned that every believer is obliged to ask about matters of their religion if they are ignorant of them.
