Is zakat due on money that reached the nisab before the year was complete if a car was bought with it, and is zakat due on the car itself?

Money is not subject to zakat until a hawl (a full lunar year) has passed on it. If the owner of the money buys a car for personal use before the hawl passes, then zakat is not obligatory on it. If the hawl is completed, he must pay zakat on the money he possesses if it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold). This is based on the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Whoever acquires wealth, there is no zakat on it until a hawl passes over it in his possession." This is also because assets acquired for personal use are not subject to zakat, as indicated by the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "There is no charity (zakat) due from a Muslim on his horse or his slave."
