Scholars have differed as to whether the seven-time washing and one-time scrubbing with earth when a dog has licked applies specifically to vessels or generally to everything. According to the view that it suffices to pour water over the impure trace on things other than vessels, then the hand in question would be purified by that. However, according to the view that it must be washed seven times, one of them with earth, then it is deemed impure, and its impurity transfers to whatever it touches if one of the two objects is wet. The more cautious approach is to purify whatever the hand contaminated by dog saliva has touched if it was not washed seven times, one of them with earth. And whoever acts upon the saying of a trustworthy scholar who does not deem that obligatory incurs no blame.
