Is it permissible to curse with imaginary or inanimate things such as "May the gods丑化 you" or "May the wrath of Hubal befall you" for the purpose of amusement, and is its ruling the same as cursing by Allah?

The statement "May the gods curse you" contains two great evils: First, it asserts the existence of gods other than Allah who are capable of cursing, which is disbelief (kufr). Allah Almighty alone is capable of cursing. Such a statement, even if made in jest, does not remove it from the realm of disbelief, according to the verse: ﴿And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing idly and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief."﴾ Second, it involves cursing a specific individual, which is prohibited, even if the person is a disbeliever or a transgressor. How much more so then if the person is a Muslim who is not a transgressor, as there are prophetic traditions forbidding cursing, such as his (peace be upon him) saying: «The believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor an obscene speaker, nor an ill-mannered person», and «A believer is not a curser.» It is also mentioned that those who curse excessively will not be witnesses or intercessors on the Day of Resurrection, and that frequent cursing is among the reasons for entering Hellfire, and that cursing distances a person from Allah's mercy. Whoever said this should repent to Allah and refrain from it.
