What is the ruling on supplicating with the words: "O Allah, I ask You, by my recitation of the Qur’an, not to deprive so-and-so and so-and-so, and all deceased Muslims, of the reward of this recitation, and to make it part of their ledger of good deeds, all of them," after finishing the recitation of the Qur’an, and is it permissible to generalize it to more than one person?

Transferring the reward of recitation to the deceased is a matter on which scholars have differed, and the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible. There is no harm in this supplication because it is an act of seeking intercession through a righteous deed, and it is permissible for one to ask Allah to grant the reward of this recitation to so-and-so. However, it is more appropriate for a person to dedicate the reward of his recitation to himself and suffice with supplicating for the deceased, as supplication is the best thing that benefits them.
