Is it permissible for someone who is obligated to pay the blood money for accidental killing in a car accident and has fasted one month of the two months of expiation to interrupt the fasting and feed for the remaining period, or must he complete the fasting after Ramadan?

One who is liable for the expiation of killing must free a believing slave. If he does not find one, then he must fast for two consecutive months. If he is unable to fast due to a chronic illness or old age, there are two opinions among scholars:

1. The fasting remains an obligation upon him, and nothing else is required.

2. He must feed sixty poor people.

If a person is able to fast, it is not permissible for him to interrupt it. If he interrupts it without a valid excuse, he must restart the two consecutive months of fasting. It is not permissible to combine fasting and feeding.
