How did sorcery affect the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, without jinn entering his body, knowing that sorcery is only carried out with the help of jinn assisting the sorcerer by entering the body of the bewitched?

Magic is of various types. Some types involve seeking help from devils (shayatin), while others do not. The argument that the Prophet's (peace be upon him) being afflicted by magic contradicts his infallibility is refutable, because types of magic are not limited to what involves the domination of devils. Magic can be through medicines, or merely an illusion and sleight of hand. Some scholars have adduced that the magic affecting the Prophet (peace be upon him) was akin to an illness that afflicts prophets, which is supported by his statement at the end of the hadith: "As for me, Allah has cured me." Even if it were of the devilish type, not every exposure to Satan means that one is not among Allah's righteous servants. There is a difference between exposure and incitement, and complete domination. Satan tries to incite discord among people. Satan exposes himself to every righteous person, and this is part of his function upon which he swore. If this magic was a form of domination, it was a temporary domination that Allah Almighty removed.
