The Shari'ah encourages ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) because its reward continues even after the death of its giver. The Hadith indicates that the deeds of the deceased cease except for three: an ongoing charity, knowledge from which people benefit, or a righteous child who prays for him.
