Is it necessary to abstain from food and drink until sunrise, even though abstention begins at the Fajr adhan, which is about an hour before sunrise, based on the interpretation of the noble verse: "And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night] from the Fajr"?

The black thread in the verse refers to the night, and the white thread refers to the dawn. The dawn was called a white thread because the first thing that appears from it is a light like a thread in the horizon, which then spreads. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from 'Adi ibn Hatim that when the verse was revealed, he misunderstood it and placed two ropes, one white and one black, under his pillow. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then explained to him that what was meant was the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the day. Al-Nawawi said: The white thread is the true dawn, and the black is the night.
