What is the ruling on parents not marrying off their son, despite their knowledge of his need for marriage and his inability to maintain his chastity, and how can they be persuaded?

Marriage is a good deed that should be hastened to, due to the great legitimate objectives it entails, such as safeguarding one's chastity and increasing progeny. Parents should not object to their son's marriage, and studies are not a legal or customary impediment. Marriage may even become obligatory if one fears falling into indecency.

It is advisable to seek Allah's help and supplicate for the facilitation of marriage, then to seek the help of wise individuals to convince the parents. If the parents are not convinced, it is permissible to marry without their consent, because obedience to parents is obligatory in what is good and right, and ordering a son to do what harms him is not considered good and right.

Some jurists have explicitly stated that it is obligatory for a well-off father to marry off his needy son. Ibn Qudamah stated in "Al-Mughni": "It is incumbent upon the father to ensure the chastity of his son if the son's maintenance is his responsibility and he is in need of safeguarding his chastity."
