How did the Muslims face the Qiblah before facing the Kaaba, and how do they face the Qiblah inside Al-Aqsa Mosque?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions prayed towards Jerusalem for sixteen months, then they were commanded to turn towards the Kaaba. At that time, there were no Muslims in Jerusalem. If a Muslim had existed and prayed there, he would have faced any direction, just as it is confirmed that the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed inside the Kaaba.
