Is it permissible to marry a young man to a girl without his knowledge, by his father or brother acting as his proxy in writing a contract with the girl's father? Is the contract valid or void? And is it permissible to marry a man without his knowledge?

It is not permissible to marry off a mature, sane, and رشيد (of sound judgment) person without his consent. If the marriage contract is concluded without his permission, the contract is null and void. The consent of the spouses or their guardians is a condition for the validity of the contract.

However, if the contract was concluded without the man's knowledge, and then he became aware of it and consented, scholars have differed on this matter. Some of them have ruled that the contract is valid in such a case.
