However, if no female doctor is available, and refraining from treatment would result in harm, then it is permissible for a male doctor to treat the woman, and to look at and touch what is necessary for the treatment, even if it is the private parts. This is on condition that he does not seclude himself with her, and that his gaze is restricted only to the area of need, and that this takes place in the presence of a mahram (definition), her husband, or a trustworthy woman.
