What is the ruling on money taken by the questioner from the employer as compensation for a portion of his wages being withheld?

The worker in the bakery, earning a known wage, is considered a private employee (ajīr khāṣṣ). The basic principle is that a private employee is not liable for what is damaged under his hand, whether it be work or machinery, except in cases of negligence (tafrīṭ) or transgression (taʿaddī), because his hand is a hand of trust (yad amānah). If what occurred from him was not a result of carelessness or negligence, then he is not liable, and it is not permissible for the bakery owner to deduct the value of the damaged item from his wage. However, if what occurred resulted from carelessness or negligence, then he is considered liable and must compensate for the value of the damaged item, and he must repent to Allah.
