Is it permissible to close gaps in the front rows during prayer by drawing near and joining the worshippers?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded straightening the rows, filling gaps therein, and completing the first row then the next. He also stated that straightening the row is part of the perfection of prayer. He commanded aligning the rows, making shoulders even, filling gaps, and not leaving spaces for Satan. Therefore, the proximity of worshipers and filling gaps in the front row is a prescribed and commendable act, so long as it does not lead to crowding or harming the worshipers.
