Do disturbing and incomprehensible dreams that negatively affect and cause hallucinations and talking during sleep, despite maintaining adhkar (remembrance of God), indicate sorcery and attacks from devils, and what is the advice regarding that?
We do not assert that the questioner is enchanted or possessed. We advise him to observe the remembrances (dhikr) and etiquettes of sleep, and to recite the reported supplications for seeking refuge (ta'awwudh) when startled. There is no objection to resorting to ruqyah (exorcism) according to the Sharia, for treatment with the Book of Allah, the Sunnah, and lawful invocations is among the most effective means of healing from evils. Perhaps the nightmares he experiences are from Satan, so we advise him to continue reciting the remembrances of sleep with certainty, especially Ayatul-Kursi, for whoever recites it, no devil shall approach him until he awakens.
