What is the ruling on men wearing necklaces around the neck, whether they have pictures of martyrs or emblems on them or not?
These hanging threads are not without one of two situations: First, that they contain images of animate beings, in which case it is impermissible for both men and women to hang them. Second, that they are free of images. If the hanging is specific to women, and there is no prohibition in it, then there is no harm in it. As for men, it is not permissible for them to wear them, because wearing necklaces is a characteristic of women, and doing so involves imitating them. It has been established that "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men." The adoption of chains for adornment is forbidden for men, and it becomes even more forbidden if it is made of gold or contains an image of an animal or a cross. The latter is forbidden for both men and women. Therefore, men should be absolutely prevented from these hangings.
