Is the maintenance of a mother married to a Shiite man obligatory upon a debtor son? And does the mother’s anger result from the lack of maintenance? And does this maintenance continue after the son repays his debts?

If the stepfather is wealthy, he is responsible for her maintenance.

If her husband is unable to provide for her, then her maintenance is obligatory upon the son alone, if she has no other child, and if he possesses wealth exceeding his basic needs.

If her husband is able to provide but refuses to do so and cannot be compelled, then her maintenance is obligatory upon the son if he possesses wealth exceeding his basic needs.

Maintenance of a relative takes precedence over debt repayment.

If her maintenance is not obligatory upon the son, her anger does not harm him. However, it is preferable for him to give her what does not harm him to gain her satisfaction, due to the virtue of honoring one's mother and being good to her.
