The musk currently available from perfumers, which souls dislike, is often not the original musk known to the Arabs. It may be synthetic, of poor quality, or harvested before maturity. The best types of musk are Tibetan, then Sogdian, then Chinese. Good musk is characterized by a scent resembling Lebanese apples and a yellowish color.
