Is it permissible to ask for prayers from a man known for his righteousness and piety?
It is permissible to ask others to supplicate (make du'a) for you, but it is better for a person not to seek it for themselves. This is supported by what is mentioned in the description of the seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment: that they do not seek (exorcism) from others.
If the intention behind asking for supplication is to benefit the one supplicating by having them perform the act of worship of du'a, then there is no harm in that, and both the supplicator and the one being supplicated for will be rewarded.
However, asking for supplication may lead to a detriment: it may cause the one supplicating to become conceited, and it may lead the one asking to rely on the supplication of others, neglecting to supplicate for themselves.
It is better for a person to supplicate to their Lord directly, because supplication is an act of worship, a purification for the heart, and it demonstrates one's dependence on Allah the Almighty.
