The question

1. How can I pay the zakat on my money, which amounts to one hundred thousand, for the past 35 years during which I did not pay zakat, taking into consideration that I currently do not have a salary? 2. How do I pay zakat on the gold I own, which is little and small in size, and I do not know its weight in grams, knowing that I do not wish to sell it? 3. What should I do about the days I missed fasting in previous Ramadans since I reached the age of eight, and I have forgotten their number and have not made them up? Can I pay 100 Riyals as expiation for each past Ramadan? 4. Is it permissible for me to send my brother to pay zakat or charities on my behalf at zakat and charity offices, or must I go myself, especially since it is difficult for me to leave the house due to my family's refusal?

The answer

The Zakat on money must be paid for all past years since its possession. As for gold designated for adornment, the majority of scholars do not obligate Zakat on it, but it is more cautious to pay it. However, gold not designated for adornment is subject to Zakat if it reaches the nisab, which is approximately 85 grams of pure gold.

Regarding fasting, one must account for the days missed since puberty and make them up as long as the ability to fast is available. It is not permissible to resort to feeding the poor (fidyah) except for those who are unable to fast due to an illness from which recovery is not expected. No fidyah is due for delaying the make-up fast if the person was unaware of its impermissibility.

It is permissible to appoint your brother or anyone else to pay the charity, and the delegator will receive the full reward for it.
