Expiation is only required for breaking the fast through intercourse. As for intentionally breaking the fast with anything else, it only necessitates making up the fast and repentance. Intentionally masturbating during the day in Ramadan is among the things that break the fast, but if you were ignorant of the ruling, then you are not required to make up the fast nor offer expiation, and you are excused due to your ignorance.
