The practice of masturbation is absolutely forbidden (). Whoever performs it during the day in to the point of ejaculation has invalidated their fast and must make up for that day, along with repentance and seeking forgiveness. According to the Maliki school, expiation (kaffara) is required if the person was aware of its prohibition and violated the sanctity of the month. However, if they were unaware of its prohibition, then no expiation is required; they only need to seek forgiveness, repent, and make up for the invalidated days.
