Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, when fasting from dawn to sunset is obligatory for able adult Muslims. It also carries recommended practices, including increased Qur'an recitation and night prayer. Its start and end are marked by moon sighting, or by calculation, depending on the method followed.
