What is the ruling on a house and car purchased with money from alcohol sales?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Drinking alcohol is a major sin. The Qur’an and Sunnah have clearly stated its prohibition and condemned its drinker and everyone who assists in its circulation. The one who drinks it must sincerely repent and abstain from it. As for the money resulting from its sale, if it is still available, it must be disposed of by giving it to the poor or spending it on charitable causes. If it has already been spent, then only repentance is required of him. An exception to this is a disbeliever who embraces Islam, for he is not required to dispose of the illicit money he acquired before his conversion.
