Why didn't Umar ibn al-Khattab strangle Satan when he saw him, and why did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stop him?
What is established in the Sunnah is that the devil does not take a path taken by Umar ibn al-Khattab. As for choking the devil, this occurred to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when the devil appeared to him to interrupt his prayer. Allah enabled him to overpower and slaughter him, and he intended to tie him up so that people could see him, but he remembered the supplication of Sulayman, peace be upon him, so Allah repelled him disgraced.
