Which is more powerful: a curse or something forbidden (haram)?

If a curse is mentioned in connection with a sin, it indicates a greater degree of prohibition than a mere prohibition. Scholars differentiate between major and minor sins by defining a major sin as one for which its perpetrator is cursed in the Book of Allah or on the tongue of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. This demonstrates that a curse accompanying a sin signifies a greater severity than a mere prohibition.
