Is it permissible for a Muslim to prostrate to God and supplicate to Him after finishing the prayer and glorification?

Supplication during prostration in prayer is legislated and is one of the instances where supplications are answered. However, for supplication outside of prayer, prostration is not legislated for it. This has not been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor from his Companions, nor from the Tabi'un. Therefore, performing it would be an innovation that must be avoided.
