How can a person far from God, who has committed many grave and minor sins, repent sincerely and return to God? What are the conditions for sincere repentance, and how can one achieve remorse if one does not feel it?

The sins mentioned vary in severity. Some are considered disbelief (kufr), such as insulting Allah and His Messenger. Others, like abandoning prayer, are debated as to whether they constitute disbelief. Some are grave indecencies, such as sodomy. As for backbiting (gheebah), it is considered a major sin according to the sound opinion.

The repentance of such a person involves immediately ceasing the sins, resolving not to return to them, feeling deep remorse for what has passed, and restoring rights to their owners if they are related to a human right. As for backbiting, seeking forgiveness for the one backbited and speaking well of them is sufficient.

Whoever repents sincerely, Allah accepts their repentance and forgives their sins, in accordance with His (the Most High) saying: "And He it is who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons sins," and the Hadith (definition): "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."
