If the servant's heart is at peace with faith, then obsessive thoughts (waswas) do not harm him as long as he dislikes them and strives to rid himself of them, for this is a clear sign of faith. It does not harm the person afflicted with waswas to have an involuntary emotional reaction, as long as he dislikes these obsessive thoughts. One must turn away from these obsessive thoughts and seek refuge in Allah from them, for they do no harm. Sheikh Al-Islam has clarified that these obsessive thoughts, coupled with one's dislike for them and the effort to repel them from the heart, are a clear sign of faith, and they are a trial for all people.
