ما هي الصلاة التي صلاها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قبل فرض الصلوات الخمس في ليلة الإسراء؟
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform the night vigil prayer (Qiyam al-Layl) without specifying a fixed number of rak'ahs, in obedience to Allah Almighty's command: "O you who wraps himself [in garments]! Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little." (Quran 73:1-2). A group of scholars held the view that there was no obligatory prayer before the Isra' (Night Journey) except for Qiyam al-Layl. Al-Harbi mentioned that prayer was obligatory: two rak'ahs in the morning and two in the evening. In the hadith of the Isra', it is confirmed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed two rak'ahs in Jerusalem, and all of this was before the five daily prayers were made obligatory.
