What is the meaning or explanation of the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Does not one of you fear, if he raises his head before the Imam, that Allah may turn his head into the head of a donkey, or turn his image into the image of a donkey?"

The hadith contains a severe warning and threat for anyone who raises their head before the Imam. Scholars have differed in interpreting the mentioned threat: some have taken it literally, meaning Allah may actually transform their head into that of a donkey. Others have interpreted it metaphorically, as an idiom for the dullness of the doer. The apparent meaning of the hadith necessitates the prohibition of rising before the Imam. The majority of scholars hold that whoever does so commits a sin, but their prayer is still valid. However, Ibn 'Umar, Ahmad (in one narration), and the Dhahiris held that their prayer is nullified.
