Does the housing allowance count towards the child's maintenance paid to the mother?

The maintenance of a child is obligatory upon his father and is not forfeited by the mother's defiance (nushooz) or divorce. This maintenance includes: food, clothing, and educational expenses. The custodial mother has the right to demand payment for breastfeeding. Scholars have differed regarding whether maintenance includes housing rent; some hold that it is obligatory, while others hold that it is not, deeming the mother's residence sufficient. Ibn 'Abidin chose the view that housing rent is obligatory if the mother does not have a residence. The reference for these matters is the judge.
