What is the amount of zakat on money that is given to this relative, or what are the foundations upon which the determination of the amount is based?
The poor and the needy are given from Zakat what suffices them for one year. The estimation of sufficiency varies according to individuals, circumstances, and countries. The important thing is that it should be in accordance with what is customary, without extravagance or miserliness. Thus, one takes what they need for themselves and for those whose sustenance is obligatory upon them, including food, drink, clothing, housing, and other necessities. So, if twenty thousand is sufficient for them in a manner appropriate to their condition, then they should not be given more than that. But if it is not sufficient for them, they should be given what suffices their needs.
