Who is Hudhayfah?
Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman al-Absi was a venerable Companion. His father had fled to Medina, and both he and Hudhayfah embraced Islam. They intended to participate in the Battle of Badr, but the polytheists prevented them. They witnessed the Battle of Uhud, where his father was martyred. Hudhayfah then participated in the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq) and subsequent events. Muslim reported that he heard from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about all that had been and all that would be until the Hour (Day of Judgment). He was known as the Keeper of the Prophet's Secret, peace and blessings be upon him. Umar appointed him over Mada'in, where he remained until his death in the year 36 AH, forty days after the martyrdom of Uthman.
