How can a Muslim woman remain steadfast in the rulings of the religion and apply them in a society that may sometimes view her as an extremist and sometimes as too lenient, and how can she deal with these contradictions?

"Pleasing people is an unattainable goal. The important thing is to strive to please Allah, while ensuring the soundness of the methodology and the appropriateness of the approach. It is not permissible to describe adherence to Islamic law as extremism, for blameworthy extremism is clear, as is blameworthy laxity by violating Islamic law. There is no harm in wearing trousers under a modest garment and going out with them. A caller to Islam needs patience, for 'patience in these matters is like grasping a live coal.'"
