Does sleeping from dawn until noon affect the validity of the fast?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If you are able to sleep at the beginning of the night, then rise for prayer and Qur'an recitation, then sleep for another part, and then rise for suhoor, supplication, and seeking forgiveness, this is best, in emulation of the prayer of David (peace be upon him). If you are unable to do so, there is no harm in spending the night in worship and sleeping part of the day, as this gives the body its due right and completes your fast. The Prophet (peace be upon him) affirmed Salman's words when he said: "Indeed, your Lord has a right over you, and your soul has a right over you, and your family has a right over you; so give each one who has a right his right."
