What is the definition of death in Islam, and what is the difference between it and the throes of death?

Death is the soul's detachment from the body and its departure from it, while the death agony (agony of death) is the state that precedes death. When the soul separates from the body, the person becomes dead, but as long as the soul has not separated, he is called "in the agony of death." Each of these has specific jurisprudential rulings.
